Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

Bubba,

I didn't know that you were a conspiracy theorist.

First, cookies don't send files to Web sites. There's a knowledge base article available talks about what cookies are and how and why we use them. You can find it at http://www.familytreemaker.com/support/online/05134.html

Second, the FTW.INI file (or PD.INI file in the case of UFT) contain information and preferences about your installation of the program including things like what file you last used.

Finally, Brodcast is a technology created by Broderbund employees (hence the play on the word broadcast) and used by multiple Broderbund programs (keep in mind this as implemented when we were a part of Broderbund). It does one thing. It checks a specific spot on our Web site to see if there is a new splash screen (the picture you see when you start a program) that is available to download.

Please don't post uninformed messages that are meant to do nothing but stir people up.

Sincerely,
Paul Burchfield, Genealogy.com Technical Support
