"You said: "perhaps you should consider all strange characters in your text to be suspect" …[she pauses to think] … Good point.
Here are two I hadn't even considered, so perhaps one or both are the cause of my problems.
I frequently use "—" (em-dash, Alt+0151) and "…" (ellipsis, Alt+0133) in my text fields. Both characters have always printed correctly (even when others did not) but they do not display correctly on my screen in UFT. I choose these over "hyphen hyphen" and "period period period", either of which is likely to fall at the end of a line and split apart.
Any thoughts on these critters?"
Linda:
I just glanced at the MS Rich Text Format (RTF) 1.5 Spec again. In your origninal post you mentioned using a funny way of inserting non-standard characters in Roots 3. This may have been the hex-decimal method the 1987 RTF 1 Spec used to live within 7 bits.
But as to your em-dashes, in theory they shouldn't cause any problems unless preceded by a backslash. But in practice who knows, particularly since you transferred from Roots 3. Perhaps you should run some tests and remove these em-dashes and dots, or perhaps insert them in the Kennedy Sample to see what happens.
Good luck.
