I have been using the Roots/UFT line for many years and have progressively upgraded from R5 to UFT2.8 as upgrades became available on the old Message Board (or where ever they were). Being in Australia, we are very closely aligned with British events than with US events - So, I obtained a copy of UFT2.1 with the UK Events and loaded it onto D Drive (my R5 & U2.8 being on C Drive) and created a shortcut for U2.1 on the desktop. I now had 2 UFT Icons named UFT2.8 and UFT-UK. Whenever I tried to enter EITHER by using the icon I got the message "You can't have more than one UFT on the computer" or something very close to that. So, I uninstalled UFT2.1 and vallah, UFT2.8 Icon access worked OK again. I then reported this on the Message Board and received a couple of replies to try Fixme.Bat. Of course, being an 'old hand' at UFT I had already tried this on BOTH versions without any change to the Message or my ability to open either version.
I tried no more until I decided to reinstall UFT 2.8 over R5 after installing UFT3.0 over my original UFT2.8. Again U3 on C Drive and U2.8 on D Drive. Created Shortcut and AGAIN - ACCESS DENIED via Icon to BOTH Versions.
Being *&^5#* off at this stage I killed the new shortcut and, just out of curiosity, tried to enter U2 via Windows Explorer and UFTree.exe - WOW, I'm IN!!!
Tried U3 icon and again - IN.
Created Shortcut to U2 again - Same result - ACCESS DENIED.
Killed Shortcut Icon again - ALLOWED IN AGAIN.
That is why I associate the problem Message with the fact I have 2 shortcut Icons on my Desktop.
I hope that is enlightening - I don't have any other explanation as to why the problem ocurs AND I have not been able to duplicate the Message under any Other circumstances. BUT, 2 Shortcut Icons does it EVERY time.
