"For those of you who actually use sourses and cite them, has anyone determined that the space unprinted is/is not equal to the number of text characters omitted?

There is a correlation but it is not one for one. When I first found the problem I tried to figure it out but couldn't. The only thing I could tell was that the more lines omitted the more lines of blank space.

"Aren't the reserved characters just plain old RTF formatting codes that work just fine if used properly, but hang you out to dry if you don't know bone up on doing it
right?

That may be true but when used in text they are not being used properly so they "hang you out to dry" -- in my experience, the printing stops at that point.
