The answer is no. It cannot be done the way you describe below. It's on my wish list, though.

"...What I would like to have is this. Say for instance that the only piece of evidence on this sheet is the census record. The Father, Mother and each of the 3 children would have a number 1 (for a footnote), and then at the bottom of the sheet it would have the number 1 (to identify the footnote)and have the census record listed only once.

Can this be done?"
