Ned,

To make an event print, that has no info entered (no date, no place, no evidence etc), create a dummy source that says anything – I use the Free-form Text template and the phrase “Print Event” in the 1st abbreviation and component field. Attach this source as evidence to the event but do not build the footnote. The event will now print (without a footnote). Of course continue to input a sort date for correct chronological placement of the event.

To do away with double printing of events in the Family Journal, select one of the spouses and make that spouse’s Role a NON PRINCIPLE Role. The event will not print for that spouse. Be advised though that the event will not appear in that person’s Individual Record screen.
