Ultimate Family Tree Platinum Version 2.9 for Windows

I had purchased Windows XP Home Edition..Now when I Load UFT,,it will not look for the New Internet Explorer that comes with XP..looks for Version 3.0,,and give me the Divide by 0 or overflow error..and Stops.. I have tried everything I can imagine and downloaded the following

puft3ra and Patch 26,,unzipped them and still can not use the program.. I have noticed that drive C: is NTFS?

What I am asking I guess...is how do you removed Windows XP or backup all the files on the drive...and then re-install WIN 98-- I just don't want to damage any new files on XP.......I am really Frustrated about this...
