This happened to me awhile back, too, Mary Lou. The answer is that (like me) you probably did not enter an abbreviation in one field or another while entering data in Roots III. Thus, when converting, some Major Footnotes contained empty Abbreviation Fields. In UFT, those empty fields were filled with the original Roots III references (i.e. "r3import 76177359")

To view the information, from the View menu, choose Source List and Abbreviation 1.
Scroll down the list until you see your first R3 Import ...
Double click on it to open the Source Record window
In the list view, the right-hand side of the screen shows what source it is and you can look at title, author, publisher, etc.
Choose an abbreviation for the title and author and click OK. If you hit F9 and then preview, you can tell whether it's changed to your desire or not.
Some sources on mine were duplicated. This then entails "combining" sources (see manual for further). But the easiest way to merge two sources is to enter the same thing for both in the "Edit Status Field" and then by using the Source Seartch, using that edit status, and using the Combine Source, open in the Utilities/Projects menu, you can then merge the two sources. (Make sure not to delete one before you know they are combined in all projects that use the same sources).

Hope this helps.
