Dear Sir! First of all I' ve to excuse for my bad English. In the 19th century one of my ancestors, Franz Uffmann, emigrated to the USA just before the outbreak of the Civil War. He left Borgholzhausen(small town near Bielefeld in Westphalia/Germany) in 1859 in the age of 15 and moved to Cincinnati/OH. The last letter we received from him came from Danville in 1866, but the letter lacks exact information about the State. I guess that the letter came from Kentucky or probably from Missouri. Moreover Missouri has close connections to Westphalia. Many German immigrants from Westphalia settled in the North-Missouri region near St. Louis, for example in Dissen or New Haven(Miller's Landing). Due to that several years ago Borgholzhausen formed a city partnership with New Haven, Miss. to remember and strengthen the close ties between the two regions. Sincerely, yours Ulrich Wesselmann
