EMILY MERRILL, w. of John(3) UDELL (John(2), John(1), and Lionel.

Go to "Google"On the Internet, type in Merrill Memorial, enter, and find that most of the text of the book is online. The work has a decent genealogy of the Merrills, in this case down to Emily. I was told thirty years ago that everyone in New England is related to the Merrill family. Emily's pedigree chart is also on-line, and can be found using the above search engine.

Her grandfather Nehemiah Merrill was a Connecticut soldier in the Revolutionary War His descendants are acceptable to the NSDAR. There are records of her family in New Hartford, CT.

Her family moved to Ashtabula County, OH., and her marriage to John Udell is on record. John Udell is descended from the Lionel Udall who arrived in Stonington, CT early in the eighteenth century.
For more, see John's first book:, and if one writes to:
Lynne Morgan, at the Disciples of Christ Historical Society,
1101 19th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37212, will sell, for $20.00, microfilm copy of John Udell's book , Incidents 0f Travel to California, Across The Great Plains; Together With The Return Trips Through Central America and Jamaica; to Which Are Added Sketches of The Author's Life. Jefferson, Ohio; Printed for the Author, at the Sentinel Office. 1856.
IT WILL BE A MICROFILM COPY!

The story of John and Emily's trip from Missouri to California is told in "John Udell's Journal", and that is online: On the Internet, go to "Google", type in "John Udell's Journal", and enter. One must pick chapters and copy, or read on-line. Most of the text of the book is online, and can be down-loaded if you wish.

There are many fascinating stories of their ancestors, and they are being revealed in the genealogical literature and in local history works.

I am certain that a fair work can be compiled for the "Ancestors of John and Emily Merrill Udell", and should be so done. This includes genealogies of all their brothers and sisters, and all encountered.
There are partial genealogies of the Udall/Udell family, un-published, and out-of-date.

I realize also that there are many who read this have pertinent material, and possibly have an interest in helping to compile "The Descendants of John and Emily Merrill Udell".

I would like to hear from any interested in tackling these projects. I hope to compile what I have on the descendants of Henry, son of John and Emily.
