The William Johnston you mention was the son of Christopher "Johnson" (adopted the surname Johnson = son of John or "MacShane"), of Smithstown, Co. Meath. He, Christopher, married Anne, the sister of Vice Admiral Sir Peter Warren, and daughter of Michael Warren of Warrenstown, Co. Meath. They had two (or three) children:
• Peter Warren Johnson or Johnston
• Sir William Johnson, 1st Baronet. (1715 – 1774
• (Some records have third son: John)
Sir William Johnson, 1st Baronet. (1715 – 1774) went to North America to manage his uncle's estate (Sir Peter Warren) on the Mohawk River in 1738. He was Colonel-in-Chief of the Six Nations in 1744 and Major-General of the Six Nations in 1755 when he defeated the French at Lake George. For his services he was created a Baronet (27 November 1755). He was born at Smithstown, Co. Meath in 1715 and married in 1739 to Catherine, daughter of John de Wissenbergh of Montreal. (She died 1759). Sir William married, secondly, Molly, sister of Thayendonegea (aka Joseph Brant) hereditary chief of the Mohawks and principal chief of the Iroqouis Confederacy known as the Six Nations. Sir William died 11 July 1774. Gonwatsjayenni (Mary (aka Molly) Johnson), older sister to Thayendonegea (Joseph Brant) and daughter of "Old King Hendrick" or Theyanogui, b. c1736, d. 16 April 1796, marriedSir William Johnson in an Indian ceremony which was never recognised by the whites. She was listed in Sir William's will as his "prudent and faithful Housekeeper" and to the children as his natural children.
• Sir John (by Catherine)
• Anne, (by Catherine) married Colonel Daniel Clauss of North America
• Mary, (by Catherine) married Colonel Guy Johnstone
• Peter Warren (by Molly) b. 1759, d. 1777 in Philadelphia serving with the 26th Foot.
• "Big" George (by Molly) farmed and taught day school near Brantford, Ontario.
• two daughters (by Molly)
(Adapted from http://mlloyd.org/gen/macomb/text/kennedy/roygen3.htmhttp://mlloyd.org/gen/macomb/text/kennedy/roygen3.htm)
The children of Michael Warren and Lady Catherine Aylmer are:
1. Lt. Oliver Warren, d. August 1724
2. Rev. Christopher Warren, d. prior 1748
3. Peter Warren (uncle of William Johnson)
4. Mary Warren (1672 – 26 Feb 1771) Married James Tyrrell, eldest son of John Tyrrell (See J H Tyrrell “A Genealogical History of the Tyrrells”. 1904 page 106). They were the parents of Admiral Richard Tyrrell (1716 – 1766). I would put the marriage before 1716 as, according to the inscription in Westminster Abbey, Richard “died 20 June 1766, in the fiftieth year of his age”. So that would give DOB as 1716.
5. Ann Warren m. by 1717 Christopher Johnson (See above) and had two sons. Warren and Sir William.
I have no mention of a Nathanial Johnson.
The only Elizabeth Warren that I have is the daughter of Sir Peter Warren and Elizabeth Delancey and she appears to have died from smallpox in 1744, the same year as her brother Peter aged 5 who also died of smallpox
Greetings from Saudi Arabia.
