Melissa --
Your grandfather, Carl Edgar Tynes (1894-1949), was the fifth of six children (all boys) of James Monroe Tynes (1858-1932) and Laura J. Amacker (1866-1926).
James Monroe Tynes was the son of John Warren Tynes (1829-1904) and his second wife Sarah Jane Magee (1830-?).Sarah was the daughter of Jackey Magee and Clarissa Magee who were themselves cousins. All of these folks lived in Marion and Pearl River counties, Mississippi.
John Warren Tynes was the son of John Fleming Tynes (1779-1830) and Jane Warren (1786-1859).John Fleming Tynes, or "Fleming Jr" as he was called, was born in Sumter District, South Carolina; lived for a while in Liberty County, Georgia, which is where he married in 1805; and migrated in 1810 to Mississippi.Jane Warren was the daughter of John E. Warren (1752-1821, a Revolutionary War soldier) and Elizabeth Rebecca Perkins (1757-1811).
John Fleming Tynes was the son of Robert Fleming Tynes, or "Fleming Sr" (c1750-1828), and his first wife, name unknown but some stories say she was a Watkins.Fleming Sr was probably born in Caroline County, Virginia; grew up in Granville County, North Carolina; and by 1775 was living in St Marks Parish (later Sumter District), South Carolina, which is where he served in the Revolutionary War.Later he followed his son Fleming Jr to Mississippi, but ended his days in East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana.
Robert Fleming Tynes was the son of William Tynes (d. 1761) and Patience Davis (d. 1762?).Patience's father was Richard Davis.I don't know William Tynes's origins, but he appears in court records in Caroline County, Virginia, in the late 1730s and 1740s, and in Granville County, North Carolina, in 1758-1760.He died there in 1761, or perhaps late 1760, and his widow Patience seems to have died the following year, leaving several underage orphans. These children followed their Davis relatives to South Carolina.
William Tynes was probably descended somehow from Stephen Tynes and Jane Kesteven, who lived in Bermuda from at least 1641 on.Stephen was born in London in 1610.Some of Stephen's grandchildren spread to other Atlantic and Caribbean islands, and also (probably) to Virginia. So it's likely, but not proven, that our William Tynes came from that crowd.
