Stephen -- Was your father (or grandfather) born in 1938 in Carson County, Texas? If so, then your Tynes line looks like this: Oscar Edwin TYNES was the son of: Oscar Leander TYNES (1910-1976) and Lillie Irine SMITH (?-?) This Oscar was the son of: William W. TYNES (1872-?) and Samantha CRAWFORD (1876-?) William was the son of: William Luther TYNES (1822-1906) and Caroline R. COMPTON (1830-1879) (Caroline was the daughter of James F. COMPTON (1802-?)) William was the son of: Timothy TYNES (c1788-1869) and his unknown first wife (born 1800-1810, died 1840-1845) Timothy's father is unknown, but his grandfather was very probably William TYNES who died in Granville County, North Carolina, in 1761. Patience DAVIS, the only wife I know of for William, was most likely Timothy's grandmother. If your father or grandfather wasn't born in Texas, then forget all of the above; we need more information to start with. Most TYNES lines almost certainly go back to Virginia and Bermuda, although this will probably never be provable. Nearly all TYNESes in North America are probably descended from Stephen TYNES who first shows up in Bermuda records in 1641.
