This is not a name that I am researching but I thought I'd take a look and see what I could find for you
All the below is available from online, free databases.
1881 Census-- www.familysearch.org
1901 and 1911 Census-- www.automatedgenealogy.com
NS Vital Statistics-- www.novascotiagenealogy.com

From the 1881 Census of Nova Scotia, Bridgetownn, Annapolis Co.,
District 16-D, page 22, Household # 109
All surname Tyler, all born Nova Scotia, all African ethnic origin, all Methodist
John, married age 40, farmer
Mary, married, age 36
George age 16, son
Elijah age 13, son
John age 14, son
Sarah age 12 dau
Emma age 9, dau
Annie age 3, dau
Fanny age 2, dau

1881 Census of New Brunswick,
Sydney Ward, Saint John, District 24-F, page # 38, Household #426
All surname Lupee, all born New Brunswick, all African ethic origin, all Baptist
George, married, age 74, shoemaker
Nice , married age 35
Hattie age 14, dau
Fred age 12, son
Annie age 10, dau
Mary E. age 6 dau
Babbie, age 5, dau

Note: May not be connected but in the same ward of Saint John at the time was the following household. Since Lupee is not a very common name it’s not too great a stretch to think that Hestor may be the mother of the above George.
Henry Stanton, married, age 60, English ethnic origin, born England
              Saloonkeeper, Church of England
Catherine Stanton, married age 59, African ethnic orign, born NB
Hestor Lupee, widow, age 96, African ethnic origin, born NB

I could not find a marriage record between Elijah and Mary but the marriage must have dissolved before 1901 when the Census of Saint John, NB, Queens Ward District F-1, page 40 has the following family
All surnamed Tyler, all African ethnic origin
Mary born Aug 1, 1877
(birthyear is a bit off but that is not unusual)
Fannie born July 24, 1889
Elijah born Mary 16, 1893
Arthur S. born Feb 27, 1898
Clarence born November 16, 1899

The 1911 Census of New Brusnwick
Saint John, Saint John District, subdistrict 30, page 11
All surname McCarthy except Elijah and Arthur (who must have gone by the name Semore)
All African ethnic origin
Clarence married born April 1875
Mary married born Aug 1873
Elijah stepson born Mar 1893
Seaimore stepson born Feb 1896
Clarence son born 1897
Harold son born June 1900
Simeon son born Feb 1904
James W. son born Feb 1906

Also found the following marriage record in Nova Scotia
Elijah Tyler, bachelor, age 45 son of John and Mary Tyler
Married May 7, 1917 in Annapolis county to
Adelia Dixon, widow, age 41 dau of Henry and Elizabeth Simms

Hope the above is of some interest to your
Burdette
