Mr. Grafton
If you're still into finding out about Alfred 'Waller' Davis of Lafayette, I have that information. You may already know all of it after so many years, but his father's name was 'Warler' Davis, so Alfred's probably was
Alfred Warler too.

Warler Davis was son of Samuel Davis and Mary Sample Pulliam Davis, who moved from Abbeville dist. SC to Abbeville, Lafayette Co Ms in the 1830s. Warler's siblings were Mahala (md. an Anderson), Chesley (md. Mary Simpson), Williamson (md.Martha) , Mary Ann Barbara (Marianne?)(md.a Redding), Martha Priscilla (md. a Simpson (Washington?), and Sarah Frances (md. David Pate). Warler married Anne Godfrey and they had: Alfred W., Thomas C., Mary L., Benjamin S., Leander L., E. L., and O. S. Davis. You can find all of them on the 1850, 1860, and 1870 Lafayette Co MS censuses. Mahala may not have made the move to MS, Chesley and Williamson moved to Arkansas with the Simpsons, and Sarah Pate and husband died by 1850, because their children are with grandfather, Samuel.

His family was kin to my ancestors, John B[all?] Davis and wife, Elizabeth Pulliam Davis. Mary Sample above was Elizabeth's mother by first marriage to Benjamin Pulliam. After he died, she married Samuel Davis who became guardian of Elizabeth, Willis and Wiley Pulliam. Wiley also moved to Mississippi with all the others.

We're slowly going back in time with the Davis family in SC, and have quite a bit on the Pulliams, Davises, and Andersons. Look for abstracts of Abbeville probate records put online by Kristen Randall at rosewoodrecording.com. They're amazing.
