TYE : USA : Family Tree download

Hello,
I just started doing some look up on my surname. I would like any info on the Tye name. For me, my father has told me that my family originally came from Ireland. The name Tye was changed from Tighe, since the name Tye was "too Irish" for the day. Since people in the states were not to kind to Irish people at the time.
I do know also, that I had family in the America's prior to the Revolutionary war in the South. Apparently they were big land grant owners? After the war, the family moved back to England?
My father says that the name Burwell was an old family surname? No iformation on that though...
I know very little of my Tye side of the family, but know a great deal of my mothers side.
Any help/information on what is known, and on what kind of questions to ask would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Christopher Tye
