Hi Joan,

Thanks so much for responding.

Since my original posting I have learned this information you provided plus much more about my g granduncle, James Noah Alston. I have more posted at my tree at, Knox/Alston Family Tree.

James married Rosaline Dunson, the sister of Josephine Dunson, who married James' brother William Henry Alston, all in Chmabers Co., AL. This happened in the late 1860's after the War. Unfortunately Josephine died sometime after 1873 when her last child was born, and William married again.

James was the son of George Washington Alston and Elizabeth Sanders, from Chambers Co. AL. In 1875 the whole Alston family, including inlaws, moved to Smith Co. Texas area, however James and my g grandfather, George Madison Alston, who was the first to leave home after the War, winding up in Louisiana, both moved to the Weatherford, Texas area - why there I have no idea.

When in LA my g grandfather had married Frances Ann McCoy, who was also originally from AL (St. Clair Co.), The family story is that their daughter, my grandmother, Georgia when she was a baby did not do well in the west Texas climate so they moved back to LA by 1878. My own belief however is that Frances McCoy Alston wanted to be back near her family, so that is why they moved back. James Alston and Rosa Dunson Alston remained in the Weatherford, Texas area.
