'Aunt Polly Shirey' was part of my Couch family. We think she was born Mary Ann Couch, Spartanburg, SC 1825 (according to most census reports), her parents were William Couch b1790 SC and Mary Harris b1790 SC. She had many brothers and sisters and she and her husband Dradon Shirey b1830 SC, married May 1, 1849 Murray Co, GA, travelled with her brother's family, Richard (Dick) Couch b1816, to Texas arriving in 1852. Richard settled in Wise Co by 1856. In the Audubon area, Mary Ann (Aunt Polly) Shirey lived near two of Richard's girls, one was Amanda Couch b1850 Murray Co, GA who married Clayborn Marion White, the other was Nancy Elizabeth Couch b1837 GA, who married Moses Maier. These nieces lived near 'Aunt Polly" from raising young families around 1880 until her death in 1907. The Whites are buried at Ball Ground cemetery, the Maiers are buried at Oaklawn cemetery. In 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 both Maier (Myers) and White descendants lived within one page of each other in the Alvord area census. If you are a descendant of one of these Couch women. Please contact me with family information. Cynthia Couch Rodriguez
