I am not sure if you are aware of the new LDS Pilot site-
It has a tremendous amount of information on it - including most Teaxs Death Certificates from 1890-1976-
I could not locate your James C. - or Martha Gilbert Morton- was assumning they are Morton's- but only did a cursory search.

Did locate -
Dr. John Robert Morton b Sep 3, 1863 Tazewell, VA son of James W. Morton and Elizabeth Charles Morton
d San Marcos, Hays Co., TX Apr 14, 1951 - burial was in San Marcos Cemetery - informant was Chas Morton

One correction - on Robert C. Morton's death certificate it states Poohills, Parker Co, TX - burial was Friendship Church Cemetery

You can print them out - it only costs you the price of ink instead of sending to Austin and paying $27 each or more.
They are adding more databases every month so you might have a lot to search.

Betty
