States: Texas: Wise
My cousins and I have been comparing notes and all of us have heard the same story about some of our Bean relatives. The story has a little variation but not much. These two brothers were approached by a posse that was looking for two crimanals. This was a case of mistaken identity which ended in the death of Jim and Ed Bean. The last name is sometimes also seen as Beene.
One story says that these two brothers were cutting timber and were approached and asked their name. One cousin believes that the criminals may have been named Bean also, but I have never heard that version. The only real difference in the story is that one version says the location was near Chico TX and the other version says Bowie TX. Since these towns are fairly close together I guess both stories could be correct. I plan to post in both counties. I don't have a date for this incident but it probably happened an the late 1890s. I would appreciate any assistance with this incident. Surely this kind of incident would have been printed somewhere. Thanks.
