Chris, I am a descendant of W.C. Mitchell and Sophronia Elizabeth Miller. They married on 2-23-1881 in Jack Co. He was shown on the 1880 census of Jack Co and she was shown in the 1880 census of Wise Co as the daughter of J Miller and wife Patsey. They had several Mitchell children which had to be raised or at least lived with other families after the deaths of WC and Sophronia. My understanding is that she died at the time or shortly after the birth of a daughter Ollie about 1897. I don't know what happened to him, though. Two different stories - one being killed while traveling in horse and buggy (makes no sense since they stayed in the area) and two- he worked around Decatur and had to walk to work and never came home. They spent their short married life around the old township of DeGress and she worked the post office there. They are supposed to be buried there but I can't find their headstones. I plan to go back to the Jack Grace Ranch to look further as I still have Mitchell and Franklin relatives in Perrin. In the meantime, can you look and see what you can find? I'm only a few hours south of there and can pretty much go whenever. I know this is a lot to put on you, but if you could look in your "Pioneer" book and see if you can find anything about the mysterious disappearance of WC I would really appreciate it. Thanks. email at or or snail at 119 April Lane, Marble Falls, Tx 78654. Thanks so much, Linda
