George Lafayette Dea MS TX 1857 1920

I am a descendant of William Christopher O'Dea Sr. through his son George Lafayette Dea and his son Jesse Milton Dea. Either Willim Christopher O'Dea or his son changed the name to Dea.

I have a handwritten book that Laura Wade, my great-grandmother and Jesse Milton Dea's wife, wrote. In it she tells what she knew about the family history of both her family and his. The spelling is highly original, making some of the names questionable, but if anyone would like a scanned copy I can e-mail it to you. I also have a text copy that is much easier to read.

According to her book,
William Christopher Dea, called Bill Dea, was born in Ireland in the year 1824.
He was an only child, and his father died two years later.
Bill's mother married a man a few years later
and they came to America and settled in one of the 13 states.

Bill later went to Mississippi and married a girl by the name of [Mary] MaGraw,
who was four years younger than he was.
Bill got a job on a big plantation as overseer of Negro slaves for Mr. Buchanan.
When the Negroes were freed a man and his wife begged him to let them live with him and do the house work and barn work.
They lived with the Dea family until they died.

Bill and his wife had four girls and two boys.
[Bill the Second, George Lafayette, Jeannie, Ophila, Beanie, and Conelia]
One girl, Jeannie, never married.
She lived to be an old maid.
The other girls were called Ophila, Beanie, and Conelia.

Ophila and Beanie married brothers by the name of Butcher.
Beanie had a large family.
Ophila had one boy, and one girl named Besse.
Besse lived to be an old maid.
The boy died in his teens.
Ophila married again, to a Bill Chaplin (he wasn't any kin to the movie star.) They had one boy named Lony D. and two girls, Laura and Millie.

Conelia married a man named Cook and had two boys, named Carl and Nute, and one girl.

Bill Dea and wife's boys were Bill the Second and George Lafayette.

Bill the Second married and had one girl named Mannie.
The whole family died some way.

The other boy was George Layfette.

George was borned February 25, 1857, and he married Mary Lee Fowler.
They had two boys and three girls.
Their names were May, Jesse Milton, borned November 15, 1879 in Tupelo, MS, Kitty and Molly Conela, and Jeff Napoleon.
The Dea family moved to Texas.

May married Dalfer Ward in 1893.
They had two boys, Roy and Lee.
May Ward died January 17, 1959.
Dalph Ward died February 26, 1959

George and Mary separated and she married a man named Onela.
Mary soon died and George married Eva Sanders.
They never had any children of their own,
but when Mary died George and Eva had the four other children.
[May was already married.]

George Dea died in Parkes Springs, Texas on the 10th of January, 1920.[He is buried in the Crafton Cemetery, Wise County, Texas]

I have George Lafayette's death certificate, and several photographs. I will be happy to share copies.

I am interested in finding out anything about William Christopher Dea.(O'Dea)

I will appreciate any help.

Lillian Smith
