The Neals who came to Texas that I am trying to find out more about are the line of John Neal born Hefferson Cy Tennessee ca 1804, son of William Neal (b. 1777 Virginia) and Hannah Jones. John Neal married Ann Elizabeth Smith in Warren County Tennessee and moved for a while (1832?-1835?)to Illinois. He returned to Tennessee until 1843 when he moved with the Dennises and either his brother or cousin Robert Neal to Benton County Missouri. In 1845 this became Hickory County. John Neal and Robert's widow Hannah were in Hickory in 1850 but John's sons William and John Neal were in Madison, Sevier County Arkansas with the family of their father in law Joseph Hayes. By the late 1850's the whole family had moved to Atascosa County Texas and by 1870 they were all in Wilson County near the town of Fairview. Robert Neal's children ended up in Temple, Texas I think with their mother's people the Dennises. I do not know much about them yet. In addition to William and John Neal there were also George and Hamilton Thomas Neal both of whom ended up in Atascosa and later Wilson County.

My connection is through Mary Ann Neal, John's daughter who married Isaac Carver. Isaac Carver followed his father in law to Texas in 1862. Their daughter Margaret Carver married Isaac Thomas Swift who was a rancher and JP in Fairview, Wilson County and who was my g grandfather.
