Thank you Joan. I was able to verify the information I needed. George is originally from Smith County, Tennessee, and took his whole family to Vernon, TX, where he farmed with his uncle, Henry Clay H. Thackston, - b. 22 Feb. 1841, d. 11 June 1901. I don’t know exactly when George and his family moved to Wilbarger County. He was appointed to act as Attorney in Fact for his uncle, H. C. Thackston of Vernon, Wilbarger County, Texas, on March 21, 1888. This was for the purpose of settling the estate of Blake Baxter Thackston (Henry’s father), who had died in Smith County, TN. George moved to work with his uncle in Vernon sometime after that.
George W. Thackston died suddenly in Wilbarger County sometime around March 13, 1895; and his family returned to Smith County. If any researcher from the Vernon area has access to old newspapers, I am looking for a death notice.
