Thompson: Thanks for your reply. I do not have much. According to an affidavit that my uncle (my mom's twin brother) filed when my mom was trying to secure her passport to travel overseas, the adoption papers listed her name as Betty Derrick. She was adopted in 1924 and the adoption was recorded in the Wichita County Court House in 1925. The family that adopted her had the last name of Harris. I have a lot of information regarding that family. I do not have a copy of the adoption parents nor does any of my siblings or cousins. Not sure how my uncle knew what her name was on the adoption papers.

My mom received a "birth certificate" with her adopted name in order to obtain her passport. The certificate no. of the BC has an "-A" behind the number which I assume stands for "adopted". This BC lists her birthday as January 14, 1924. However, my uncle's obituary lists his birthday as Jan 14, 1923. The BC lists the place of birth as Wichita Falls, Wichita Co. for what that is worth.

Any help you can provide and or pointing in a direction to go, is greatly appreciated. If you wish to contact me directly, please do so at

Again, Thanks!

Ted Heath
