There's only a couple of references to "Mr. Townsend" - no first name given. One refers to a visit Henry Burge is making to the Townsend's and the other reads:
Feb 7, 1917:
This morning there was a heavy fog hanging close to the ground. It was so dense a person could see only a short way. I went to look for our calf. But I failed to find him. Later as I was going to school I found him over in the back of the field close to the school house.
I put up two of our new seats after school was turned out this afternoon.
I saw Mr. Townsend down at the well as I was down there after water. He said he ordered 12 seats and we have only eight.
Several of the boys stayed after school was out, to play basket ball.
From this reference, it appears that this Mr. Townsend was probably a member of the school board in Jones County as Henry Burge was teaching near Nienda at this time. Hope this is of some interest to you.
