Clarke in 1850 Walker Co. census

I'm attempting to determine if the Clarkes in the 1850 Walker County census INDEX are my ancestors, through origin of birth. The INDEX does not provide this information, and I'm hesitant about purchasing the census to determine whether the Clarkes listed there are my ancestors. I only know that they first settled somewhere in the area, but don't know which county. I would appreciate information regarding the Clarkes listed on this particular census.
