The 3 year old Mary in the 1860 Census was my Great-Grandmother Myra Elizabeth (James) MILLER, also known as Miry, born 1857 in Victoria Co., Texas. Her death certificate lists her parents as Hogan JAMES and Margaret BROWN.
The death certificate for Berry JAMES gives his mother as Mary. This leads me to think their mother's name was Mary Margaret or Margaret Mary.
Hogan JAMES and his wife died shortly after moving to Victoria Co., Texas.
Archibald Beaty married Elmira E. James, 2 Feb., 1841, Victoria Co., Texas.
Is this Elmira E. James a sister of my Hogan James?
The 1850 Census for Victoria Co., Texas lists:
Baty, Arch D. 38 M N.C. Farmer
Amyra 28 F N.C.
Mary Jane 7 F Texas
James, Benj 21 M Tennessee Farmer
(Benj or Berry? hard to read it) Maybe a brother of Elmira Elizabeth (James) Baty/Beaty?
The 1860 Census for Victoria Co., Texas lists:
Beaty, A.D. 45 M N.C. Merchant
Elmira 38 F S.C.
Mary 8 F Texas
Kate 6 F Texas
Ada 2 F Texas
Bonny, Casa 14 F Texas

Is this Kate JAMES the daughter of Hogan and Margaret JAMES?
The 1870 Census for Victoria Co., Texas lists:
Baty, A.D. 65 NC Justice of Peace, Victoria Co.
Elmira 48 NC Keeps House
Mary 18 TX At Home
Kate 16 TX At School
Ada 12 TX At School
James, Felix 14 TX At School
Porter, William E. 42 NY Druggist
Brennan, John H. 33 IL Banker
Is this Felix James the son of Hogan and Margaret James? And who is taking care of Myra Elizabeth James? She didn't marry until about 1874/1875.
Does anyone have these families in their lines? I sure would like to meet some JAMES, BROWN and possibly BATY/BEATY cousins.
