My gg grandfather appears on the 1860 Census as M. White living in Van Vandt county, TX, Occupation: Clerk and Druggist age 37. Also appearing is his wife C.M. Age 27 and other siblings to my Rachel Cordelia,
age 6, recorded as R.C. (The Mitis White came from an ancestry.com record).
The household is # 35. #31 is another White
family. An older woman, Elizabeth Young, age 59 is found 10 years later
living with a John D. White and is shown on the second page of that census
record along with three Adcock girls living in the John D. White household. Her age is given as 75. LOL That does
not surprise me. Often discrepancies like this turn up. For her to have gone
to live with another White family makes me think she was the mother of the
White brothers and had remarried at some point.
I really don't know anything else about Mitis. That spelling could have been
in error recorded by a descendant at a later date. Cordelia was my mother's
Granny. She only told my mother that her mother died and her stepmother was
mean to her.
I just noticed those Adcock children and their parents living next door to
The M. Whites in 1860.
Could have possibly been Elizabeth's daughter and husband who died by 1870.
A son is missing in 1870 also.
Any information at all about the Mitis White family is welcomed.
I did find an Andrew Midas White burial in Colfax Cemetery in Van Vandt county. But he is not the right age. However I think there is a good chance the families are connected. My Cordelia, Mitis' daughter married Hiram Jackson who had changed his name from John Leach.
