Hello Kristen Hobbs-Brooks:::
Glad to hear from you... There were 2 different family of Hobbs known to be from Talladega Co., Ala. Your Hobbs were from the William Hobbs that died in 1837 and was from Sampson Co. NC. Lewis came from Sampson Co. NC when William died to settle his estate. I think William was married about 3 times. His descendants about 1850 moved on
to Van Zandt Co. Texas. (We may find someday that YOUR Williama tied into our Hobbs maybe 3-4 or 5 generations back or in the 1600's.)
There is a book published on your William Hobbs. b. 1700's and died 1837.
My William B. Hobbs was born in Wake Co., NC., died in 1802 without a will. and his son George and about 6 daughters
are listed in court documents, dividing the estate in about 1804=5 era. George Hobbs moved on to Monroe Co., GA. in about 1809-1820 era, his sisters stayed in the Wake Co. NC area and a lot of their Hobbs 1st cousins in Wake Co., NC moved to Warren Co. Ga and other GA counties in the early 1800's. Solomon Hobbs, son of my George Hobbs, stayed in Monroe Co., GA, the other sons Wm. H. "Billy" Hobbs and
Charles Newton Hobbs, Sr. and Thomas, sister Elizabeth married James Arnold and they all moved to Talladega Co., Ala. which where they settled on the east side of Cheaha Mountain later became Clay Co., Ala. Solomon's son George Franklin "Dock" Hobbs moved on to Clay Co., Ala. about 1850.
I am still missing 2 males and 2 females of George Hobbs. After George's wife Mary died, George moved on to Clay Co. Ala. where he evidently died. Daughter Rebecca b. 1813 moved back to live with Solomon in Monroe Co., GA.
One of Solomons' son John Marion William "MD" Hobbs moved on to Van Zandt Co., Texas about 1850. My ggrandfather, James McDaniel Hobbs moved to Coryell Co., then to Colorado Co., Texas, a little after 1870 after his father Charles Newton Hobbs, Sr. died in Clay Co., Ala.
