Cotton Picking time in VanZandt and Kaufman Co.Tx, that past time use to keep kids out of school and it could be as early as 15th of august till frost, and back when I picked it in 40's & 50's frost was before Holloween most years. After the spraying began to take place, It seems to be when they can get into the fields to pick. I can't think of a cotton field now in VanZandt, but the one I picked in was close to Mabank near the VanZandt/Henderson county lines. and a couple in Kaufman Co. They still have some fields near Hwy 175 in between Kaufman and Crandall. And of course there are several that is located on large farms off the main highways. A trip down memory lane.
