SMITH & MERRIL 1860 Van Zandt Census
Posted by: Cindy Smith Date: December 28, 2000 at 20:17:14

In Van Zandt County Texas 1860, these SMITH and MERRILLS are in Dwelling 235.

Permelia SMITH 31, GA
Sarah J. MERRIL 12, GA
M.E. MERRIL 8, female, GA
N.M. MERRIL 6, female, GA
W.C. SMITH 2, male, TX
C.W. SMITH 2 months, male, TX

Does anyone know if these MERRILLs are related to Jonathan MERRILL and Nancy ELLIOTT and their daughter Jean MERRILL who married Cornelius SMITH? Are the MERRIL children Permelia's from a previous marriage? Could this C.W. be Cornelius SMITH who married Jean MERRILL? He was 57 on the 1850 Harrison County Census, but reported born in NC, not TN; no wife in the home. Then I lost track of him, could not find him in the 1860 census in Harrison County.

Thank you for any help,
Cindy Smith
