Here is a site for Civil War info, only Elias Fishers I see are all Union.

http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/Personz_Search1.cfm

But, your Elias may have joined a local "militia" that was never formally transferred to CSA. I had an ancestor who died from pneumonia less then a year after joining, and his unit was still local militia at the time. Contact the TX State Archives in Austin, they had my ancestor's record. All they had was when he joined and when he died, but family story said he died in Buffalo Gap, TX -- not a name you'd make up. I've narrowed it down to the cemetery there where he is probably buried. It has a section of unmarked graves for some Civil War soldiers.

Be sure to check "salt lists" for Upshur Co -- if they survived. Destitute families of men fighting were given salt, hard to come by in those days, and a list was kept at the time.

Happy Hunting (^_^)
