Western Upshur County, Texas Research Gathering

Every year, a group of neighbors and local businesses join my husband and myself in hosting an event that we call the "Blackstone Ridge Country Gathering". It is similar to a big reunion of people who have ties to this area (western Upshur County). We have great bandstand activities throughout the day and give very nice 'doorprizes'. There is no charge for attendance, and the general public is invited. The first one was held in 2004.

The local Civil War group and an Old West group join us for the day. Both groups are very knowledgeable about their time period and love to visit with all that attend. A group of young puppeteers do a show for us, during the afternoon. We will have two quilt auctions, during the day. We have a FREE bluegrass concert, starting at 6 P.M.

We encourage anyone with roots in western Upshur County to come and set up a table to identify the families they are researching, along with their research, documents, and any pictures they are willing to share. Also, we encourage anyone who has written books on the history of western Upshur County to bring them to sell. There is no charge to set up. It is a great way to meet others that share ones same interest. We will have several guest speakers that have done major research of the families in this area.

The date is Saturday, April 17th.

Pre-registration is required, for those that will be setting up tables, so that we can make known in our press releases, the families that will be represented. The local newspaper is one of our sponsors, and they do a great job of promoting the event.

For more information, please feel free to email me at We hope you will pass this information to others you know, who might be interested. They are invited to come and walk about, visiting with the researchers that are set up, or they can contact me to be listed as a participant. "The more the merrier."
