Thanks Ann, for this new informationon the Fortson family. I appreciate your interest. My sons' inlaws live in Navarro Co.Tx. and remember their parents being friends and neighbors with a Fortson family. They recall them as being good and honorable people. I am sure it "our" Fortsons now.
My Jeptha Fortson did not seem to prosper after the war. His father Aaron died after the 1880 census, listed as invalid and bedridden. Aaron was captured twice in the war, and imprisoned. Someone once told me that Aaron was the 13th and last child and was born crippled. Jeptha became a preacher and I can find no records of land holdings. He lived the last years of his life on my great grandfather Willingham 's land in Gregg Co.Texas. I was quite fond of Jepthas' only son William when he was an elderly man and have photos of him. He lived in Dallas, Texas, was quite tall, slim and had a full head of hair. I never saw him without a suit or waist coat and tie.
I am very pleased to have another cousin. Thank you. Carol
