Well we do have a Fortson connection but it is very distant. My distant ancestor was Benjamin Fortson m. Sally Head, brother of your William m Anne Higginbothem, through Benjamin's son John, and John's son Benjamin Joseph b. 1820. Benjamin Joseph came to Texas from Monroe County, Miss. in the early 1850s and may have stopped in Denton County before coming to Navarro. He was killed in what may or may not have been a hunting accident in 1855 but four sons and two daughters survived him. My line is BJ's son James Thomas, then Joseph Benjamin . All four of BJ's sons served in the civil war and survived it, but one met a violent death shortly after the war and none lived to the new century. Joseph Benjamin and his brother John T. became quite the entrepreneurs out of their need to support their mother and younger brother and sisters. Capitalists, the obit writers called them.

So we do have a connection, but it goes back about 7 generations, well before Texas.

Nice hearing from you.

Ann
