Lafette Cemetery and church
Posted by: Ann O'Connor (ID *****8766) Date: December 20, 2002 at 13:06:11

I recently went with a friend of mine to visit the cemetery at Lafette. I was in awe as to the dates on some of the headstones. There was also a historucal marker there. There is a Baptist church right in front of the gates to the cemetery. It is quite obvious that this church is very old. But no historical marker. I have been told that the church has been there since the Texas Republic. My friend has told me that the members of the church have not been able to get a historical marker due to a lack of proof, papers, etc. This is what I am hoping to find with this query. I would love to be a part of getting this church a Texas Historical Marker, which it rightly deserveks. We have the markers all over Upshur County, so why not this church. If you can help me, please reply. Thanks, mrmsoco@earthlink.net
