Barclay family in Tyler County

The vast majority of the Barclay family descendants of Tyler County were descended from Walter Barclay b. 1776, son of Robert Barkley and his wife Leah of Rowan Co North Carolina, and Elizabeth McQueen Barclay b. 1790, daughter of John McQueen and his wife I think her name was Nancy or Mary Crews McQueen of Madison Co. Kentucky (extensively researched in three books by Donna Porter). Walter and Elizabeth and their 8 sons and 3 daughters, some spouses and children and hands came to East Texas in the early 1830's. They are written up extensively on the Tyler County Genealogical Society Website. There were also some relatives that came to East Texas who were descendants of Walter's elder brother Samuel and his wife Mary Davis. The members of this family who continued to use the Barkley spelling of the family names were generally descended from Samuel and Mary. Walter and Elizabeth's family changed to the Barclay spelling of the family name after they came to Texas.
