You say she was married in Limestone Co, AL in October, so she should show up on the 1880 census still with her parents. Take a look at this family, also note she had a sister named Daisy, maybe why she named one of her daughters Daisy????

I do not see any family named Gillespie on the 1880 census in Limestone Co, AL.
In 1870 census Madison Co, AL John is there, no one in household old enough to be a wife, he has five youngsters, including Mary, so John's previous wife was the mother of Mary. Since her mother apparently died when she was young it may account for her mother's name missing from her own DC.
