Justice - Swearingen:
Martin Swearingen and Dicie Roberts were evidently the parents of Jincey A. SWEARINGEN
who married Benjamin JUSTICE in Ga. I am dying for their marriage record! Anyone have it?!!
The 1850 Dooly County, Ga. Census lists Benjamin & Jencey A. SWEARINGEN Justice and their
family. By 1860, they appear on the 1860 Census of Tyler Co., Texas. They had at least 8 known children:
Dicie Ann Justice who married Jasper Freeman Cheek, Mary J Justice, Celia Penelope Justice, John J.
Justice, Sarah E. Justice, Nancy F. Justice, a daughter Penelope M. Justice, and a son Henry M. Justice.
Both Benjamin and his son John J. Justice registered to vote in 1867 and stated they had been residents
of Texas for 10 years, since 1857. The family evidently moved from Ga. to Tyler Co., Texas before 1857.
John J. Justice b: 1845 married on 25 Jan 1868 in Tyler Co., Texas to Lurania/Leonora SWEARINGEN b: 1849.
They are on the 1870 Census of Tyler Co., Texas with a son William F. Justice b: 1869, living next door
to his parents Benjamin & Jincey Swearingen Justice. John J. Justice appears on the 1890 Tyler Co.,
Texas tax rolls. Tyler Co., Texas graveyard inscriptions show that John J. Justice b: 4 Jun 1845 d: 19
Aug. 1914 was buried in Camp Ground Cemetery in Tyler Co., Texas. It looks as if John J. & Lenora
Swearingen Justice had William F. Justice, Benjamin, Lenora T. and maybe an Isaac J. ? I do not have access to all the census records out of Tyler Co., Texas.
I am researching the JUSTICE family and down through Dicie Ann Justice b: c1840 Ga., daughter of
Benjamin and Jincey Swearingen Justice. If you have any Justice or Swearingen information or
contacts, please do let me know!
