Hi, Helen. I have a Maddux family heavily into a Swope family who were Methodist. The Swopes came down the Wagon Road from PA thru MD into KY. In Spencer County KY:
John J. Brown m Julian Maddox 23 Nov 1834 - Bondsman, Preston Maddox (Daviess Co KY)
Granville Brown m Laura Maddox 22 April 1830 - Bondsman, George Swope
Thomas Long m Martha Maddox 21 Nov 1839 - Bondsman George Swope (These people went up and settled in Putnam Co IN)
George Swope m Mathildy Maddux, d/o Nelson Maddux - George Swope (Daviess Co KY)
On 10 Mar 1852, Joseph, child of Alfred Swope and Eliza J. Maddox was born.
Nelson maddux ended up in Daviess and Ohio Counties, KY. He was born 1801 and died 1858.
This George Swope was b 1788-03-14 Balt MD m 1824-10-28 2nd time Shelby Co KY and died in Louisville KY 1876.
His parents were Benedict Swope and Maria Welker. Benedict Swope wwas a prominent Methodist Minister in Baltimore, who went out to KY early and lived in forts.

Don't know if this helps? Jeanne
