I am looking for information on Thomas Witherspoon Smith who was b. 1786 and moved to Austin from Alabama and Tennesee with his wife Rebecca Mitchell Smith. He died 6 Aug. 1841 by the hands of Comanche Indians near Barton Springs. His son, James W. Smith was the first chief justice of Travis County and suffered the same fate 6.5 months previous. He was scalped and killed just off Pecan Street while looking for lost hogs. His death date is 25 Jan 1841. Anyone with knowledge about early probate records or a burial place for early burials in Austin in 1841 please contact me....or if you might be a relative of these individuals.
