Hi Mary Lou!
Well, I am so confused. It's very clear on the death certificate that Ethel was the daughter of William and Lucy. And her last name is Powell. And Sam is buried next to Lola. But here's the kicker: Sam Clinkscales is the informant on Lucy Sanford Gilbreath's death certificate:
I know it's long, but it should work. Be sure and look at the actual image, not just the index listing.
It gets "curiouser." In the 1900 Hill Co. and 1910 Ellis Co. County censuses, Sam is listed in the household with his sister, another Lola. In 1910 Ethel and her family is down the page.
Then in 1930 Sam and Ethel are in the census in Dallas Co.
Here's the link to Sam's death certificate
"Mrs. Lola Clinkscales (wife)" is listed on the certificate. Obviously there is another Lola.
Turns out Mary Ethel Powell is buried in Mission Park North in San Antonio, but I can't find her listing. There's another Ethel Powell in Bexas Co. that is NOT her.
I found a 1947 deed where a Sam Clinkscales buys some land in Bexar Co.
Here's Mary Ethel's death certificate link:
Could there have been a divorce?
Good luck! And let me know if the links don't work.
