Early Travis County Birth/School Records (1888)

Is it possibly that some kind of birth records were kept in Travis county in 1888.

It is my belief that my grandmother, Annie R SMITH/WHITIS born 28 Aug 1888, was illegimate and was born to Mary Whitis or one of her sisters. Her father might be Daniel Augustus Smith or Pleasant Smith.

She is show as a niece in the 1900 Travis county census.

Daniel Simpson Harper & Mary Whitis were married 6 Feb 1972 in Somerset, Pulaski Co., Kentucky and moved to Texas about 1888.
