I'm researching family history and came across your enquiry...not at all sure T.F. Purnell was killed in this lore sez he was treated and saved by Dr. William Copeland Philips who was passing by on street. They became friends...T.F. Purnell had a son named Thomas Leland Purnell, who had a son named Leland Everett Purnell. W.C. Philips had a son named John Hall Philips who had a daughter named Fleecie Ogarita Philips. These two married after WWI and had one daughter, Lenelle Purnell, who was my mother. I have an old notebook of my mother's with an essay about accompanying her Uncle Tom Purnell to the Texas bicentennial in Dallas in 1936, where he was going to a Texas Ranger reunion...I'm guessing this was Thomas Leland...your post is pretty old, but if you get this feel free to correspond...I'm pretty sure I've got more info on Thomas Fassett and maybe even a picture somewhere in all my family stuff...if you haven't already, you might check with Austin History Center, we donated a bunch of stuff after my grandmother (Fleecie) died in '74 and I know they've got a lot more on Purnells and Philipses than I've found on web...Lee Webb
