Mary Jane Ellison, Travis Co. Census 1880

I'm trying to locate more information on Mary Jane Ellison.

Mary Jane Ellison born April 1877. She was a half sister to:
John Harvey Pinkerton b. May 2, 1861 in Buncombe County, N.C.
Thomas Jasper Pinkerton b. Aug 3, 1868
Martha Jane Pinkerton b. Feb 8, 1866

Mary Jane was a daughter of Charity Jane Pinkerton who was married to G.W. Malcom and living in Austin, Travis County, Texas in 1880.

The census reads:
1880 census, Travis Co. Texas, page 105B:

G. W. Malcom 56 head b. IN father b. TN mother b.TN
C.G. Malcom 47 wife NC NC NC
Martha Pingerton 14 Step dau NC NC NC
Thomas Pingerton 12 Step son NC NC NC
Mary Ellison 3 daughter TX TN NC

Mary's mother Charity Jane Phipps was first married to James Riley Pinkerton in N.C. He died Nov of 1870 from injuries following the Civil War. Who did Charity J. marry following his death?

Who was Mary Ellison's birth father?
When and who did Mary marry?
Where did G.W. Malcom go when he left Texas?
Did he and Charity J. Divorce? Or did he die?

(In 1900 Charity J. in is in the household of her son Thomas Jasper in Oklahoma.)

Any leads would be appreciated!

Barbara Byrd
