My Wood ancestors (Charles & Margaret Lindsey Wood) traveled from
Louisville, Winston Co., MS in 1866, with 4 children, aged 6-12). My
Parker ancestors (Peyton & Nancy Ann Elizabeth Hobbs Parker)
traveled from Leake Co., MS in 1866, with 3 children, aged 1-7.
Winston Co is just northeast of Leake Co.
The Parkers settled in Aquilla, Hill Co. The Woods settled first in
Steiner Valley, Hill Co., then moved across the river to Fowler, Bosque
Co., TX
In 1888, Columbus Campbell Parker, age 26, married Ella Wood, age 18.
Did their parents become friends while traveling in the same wagon
train? Did Columbus fall in love with Ella when she was but a wee girl,
and wait for her to get old enough to marry?
We do know that none of Charles Wood's many siblings, nor Margaret's
siblings traveled from Mississippi. We know that none of Nancy Hobbs
family traveled from Mississippi. We know nothing about Peyton
Parker... no parents or sibs... so we DON"T know if he had any relatives
that made the trip.
But, we DO know that in those days, you didn't just up and move to
Texas all by yourself, with a wagon load of young'uns. Both families
MUST have made the trip as part of a wagon train.
Now, I'm thinking that there was a good possibility that they came on
the same wagon train.
Are there any of you out there, that feel like your ancestors might have
arrived in
Hill/Bosque/Parker/Erath/Somervell/Johnson/Tarrant/Hood Counties
in 1866, on a
wagon train that had come through the counties of Winston & Leake Co.,
Mississippi?
