He was my great uncle. The town of WESLACO was named for W. E. Stewart, La for land, and Co for company. He was my grandfather, Fred William Stewart's, brother. He was the son of Edna Victoria Jackson 1852 - 1925, and Thomas William Stewart, 1850-1903. You will find him and his wife, Leila, in the 1910 census Justice Precinct 3 Hildalgo, Texas. My mother was born in Bryan's Mill, Texas where there were many Stewarts. Also, some lived in Atlanta and Naples, Texas. You will find the family in my tree--Smart Family Tree in ancestry.com. My mother said that her Aunt Leila was a lovely lady. I believe that his ancestor John R. Stewart landed on our country's shores in 1775 at the age of 5 from Scotland. As to who John's father was seems to me still is a mystery. Hope this helps.
