It appears the first time the Davis family appears in Shelby co. census records is 1880. There is also another Crenshaw that appears that year, a King Crenshaw, also from AL.
Crenshaw, King, 31wm, married,farmer, AL,AL,AL
", Sarah, 27wf, wife, keeping house, TX,AL,AL
", Lilly E., 8wf, daughter, TX,AL,TX
", George W., 6wm, son, TX,AL,TX
", James O., 4wm, son, TX,AL,TX
", Mildred I., 2wf, daughter, TX,AL,TX
", Emily, 4/12 wf, daughter, TX,AL,TX

Possibly King Crenshaw can lead you to your family.
