Regarding J G W Kirkpatrick. A relative, writing in the Kimble County book, notes that J G W served in the Rangers with other family members "before and during the Civil War" and places J G W first in his list of male siblings. There is listed one James G Kirkpatrick, aged 28, a farrier born in TN in the 1850 census "on the Medina River" in Medina Co., TX. The subjects are members of a "Ranging Company". I believe this is likely to be the same as the one listed in the 24th Texas.
